New Beds, New House

So we decided to bite the bullet and change the boys' beds this weekend. The fact that my mum is here until Tuesday morning helped with the decision. One more adult to assist in Operation Big Boy Beds!

We figured that since we're giving our cribs to our friends Amanda and Mark soon, we might as well put Will and Owen into toddler beds rather than converting the cribs for a short while and then getting the larger beds. And since Will was feeling decidely better this morning, today was the big day. My clever, clever husband made the wise suggestion to change the beds before their afternoon nap rather than before bedtime, like we did last time. So smart. They didn't nap at ALL this afternoon, just ran around the bedroom, opened their door several times (we put a baby gate up to make sure they weren't running riot around the house), threw their soothers over the gate and wrestled with each other on the floor between the beds. My poor, poor Williebear was so exhausted though...I think he was probably wishing he could nap.

By 2:30pm, mum and I went in and just lay with them in the beds, chatting and cuddling, even though it was clear there would be no sleeping today. That was fine, actually, I wasn't expecting them to be okay with the beds right away. So after another 15 minutes, we got the boys up so they could play some more. Little did the boys know that Daddy had spent two hours making them a surprise with the empty IKEA boxes...check out the video my mum took with her cell phone of them and the "present":

Needless to say William were absolutely exhausted by 7pm. He was quite clingy, needing to "huggamummy" on a regular basis, but still happy to play with his brother too. Owen on the other hand, was telling us that "no!" he didn't want to go to bed because "I still playin'! ". But we managed to brush their teeth and put them to bed without much fuss. I kissed them goodnight (much easier when you don't have to lean over the crib rails!), closed the door and....silence. complete and utter silence. Not a peep out of either of them. They were so tired from the busy day that they just conked out completely. And I think the fact that they had already had a chacne to play in their new beds and test out their freedom at naptime meant they were fairly comfortable just going to sleep. Mum has pointed out that by next week, when the new beds are old hat, I might find it harder to put them to sleep, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

My mum just snuck into their room to take a photo of Owen and Will asleep. The flash is so bright it looks like the lights are on.

Owen, with the duvet thrown back already, but still surrounded by his stuffed buddies

Will, still tucked in, and still tuckered out

It'll be interesting to see how they do through the night as well as what happens tomorrow morning when they wake up!

I love the cardboard house! That is so creative and cute. It actually reminds me of the book you gave to us, "It's not a box!" All the wonderful creations you can make with a box.

I hope the transition to big boy beds goes well. Ours went quite well, only a few times of crying for his crib. I then had to remind him that he was now a big boy and that his baby brother needed the crib. It seemed to work.

Your boys are as darling as ever. I'm glad I stopped by to check out the blog. My blog hopping time seems less and less these days.(:
Take care,
Jenna

OK... I LOVE the house. I know who else will too when she can visit again! (Of course, she might play the role of termite and sog up the sides with her kisses). We can't wait to come play! Also, do you rent Mark out?

Hugs.
