Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Denovan!

Dear Gillian and Jonathan,

Who can forget the night you met, on a dark street corner in St Andrews? Gillian and Pascale, a little the worse for wear after a night at the Student Union were about to embark on the long trek back to Andrew Melville Hall. Gillian, in need of fortification for the arduous journey, stopped a group of young men as the came towards us and asked for a light for her naughty cigarette. Or was it one of the boys asking us? I think I'd had a few too many snakebites that night and now its all a little fuzzy. But I do remember a charming young man named Jonathan being quite taken aback with our dark and mysterious girl. And the rest, as they say, is history.

On Friday, July 14th at 3pm, my wonderful friend Gillian Docherty ("Docherty!" my brother David shouts for one last time in an awful Scottish accent) married the equally wonderful Jonathan Denovan in St Andrews in Scotland. I wish with all my heart that I had been there to share the moment with you both, I can only imagine how beautiful Gillian must have looked in her dress and how handsome Jonathan was in his new kilt. I can't think of a couple more suited to each other.

Here is to a long life together and to all the joys it will entail: washing the car every Sunday; putting unwanted socks in a box in the cupboard; travelling around the world; supressing memories of the port tasting night; Simpsons' quotes and an unlimited supply of love.

If I wasn't 6 months pregnant and was able to drink I would raise a glass of champagne to you both and toast your marriage. Instead, I raise a pint of milk and say "Cheers Big Ears".

Love to you both and have a fabulous time in Italy.
