Wow. What a week. I think I'm over the shock of Monday's ultrasound results and starting to think about the practicalities (as well as the fun things) of having twins.
Yes, in case you didn't get the manic phone call, we found out we're having twin boys! I think the whole hospital heard me yell "YOU'RE JOKING!" at the technician, Erin. She was lovely, and very excited for us, and I will never forget watching her face as she studied the images of Baby A and Baby B, aka Bob 1 and Bob 2.
Mark is ecstatic, he thinks this is waaaaay cooler than just having one baby. I'll see if he still thinks its cool at 4 in the morning when we're all crying. But no, it really is amazing. I just can't believe my body did this. How incredible! We don't think there are any twins in the family. Basically, the boys are fraternal twins in their own sacs, with their own seperate placentas, apparently the safest kind of twin pregnancy you can have - they take after their cautious father already. So they won't be identical, which I also think is pretty neat. So my body pretty much released two eggs at once and Mark's swimmers got the job done. I guess I like to hedge my bets. Man, we should have played the lottery that day!!
The ultrasound was pretty spectacular for so many reasons - we got to see them yawning, waving and kicking (including kicking at each other - that's boys for you!), their hearts beating, their spines, little hands and I think Erin pointed out their feet and legs, but a lot of it was hard to make out. But the yawns were fabulous. My little guys. I love them so much already.
For some reason, I can't post the images from the ultrasound on the site, so if you want to see them just email me at ppergant@hotmail.com and I'll send them on to you. I think they're too big. So instead I've posted a picture Mark took of me this morning in front of our little garden at home. Mum, Susan and Bill, please note the lovely Wisteria, Clematis and Hostas that are thriving thanks to all the advice you've given me. See how neatly the hostas have been divided?
And for everyone else, please note the very cool t-shirt my amazing Presque Belle Soeur (Almost Sister in Law) Cecile & Dave made me - if you can't see the design on the front, its a drawing of a very angry girl holding a knife and fork in each hand and screaming with her mouth open. The wording above says "Hungry Pascy". They know me well. Of course the t-shirt doesn't really fit anymore, the Bobs are pushing me out relentlessly, but I don't have enough maternity tops, so it'll have to do.
Speaking of growing babies, I have a confession to make. I've realised that my previous post might be bupkis. I think what I thought was baby movement is in actual fact just itchiness from my skin stretching out. I'm pretty embarrassed. But I think I was so eager to feel movement, I assumed this new sensation, which does feel similar to what everyone else has been describing, was it. And who knows, maybe it IS it and this is bupkis. Okay, as I write this, I am feeling little points of pressure in one spot inside my tummy. Is that a baby moving? Sheesh. I give up.
I have to get some work done, so more news to follow.
