Just wanted to draw your attention to the updated list of books I've read over our three week holiday. Some really good ones in there - Infidel was fascinating, Julie and Julia made me hungry all the time despite all the butter and cream, Kamouraska was a surprisingly good Canadian novel from the 1970s. If I had to recommend any one book from my list thus far though, I think it would be The Gargoyle. Its hard to put it down. I should probably mention that the beginning of the book might be a little unsavoury for some people (without giving too much away there are some references to the adult entertainment industry), but it didn't bother me and I think it added to the story as a whole.
I would have read much more over the holidays but I got stuck for an M book. I started to read The Meaning Of Everything about the Oxford English Dictionary, but it just wasn't what I wanted to read. And then I saw an article about Julia Child's Memoir My Life In France and I decided after having read Julie and Julia that I'd like to learn more about this icon of tv chefs. So I'm going to try to get it out of the library and move along with my project.

Oh I am glad you liked the Gargoyle! You are right, there were some weird bits. The stuff at the beginning about his job didn't phase me at all - in fact I had forgotten all about! But the way he talks about his burns is really interesting. It was an unusual book and I liked it and didn't like it at the same time. xx
I've recently read Lullabyes for Little Criminals, The Secret Life of Bees, The Glass Castle, My Sister's Keeper, Sister of my Heart and Petite Anglaise ... I recommend them all, but The Glass Castle was my fav ... about to start Kite Runner - if my yummy darling Baby Peach lets me! :)
