My poor boys. I just have to assume that they're teething again, because I can't for the life of me figure out why they've been so out of sorts today. Lots of high pitched wailing and carrying on. Fitful napping. More carrying on. It was an interesting day in the Pergant Johnson household, that's for sure.
However, it started off pleasantly enough with breakfast for the boys, including Paul and Geoffrey. My mum asked "where on earth did those names come from?!" To be honest, I thought it was funny to name one Paul after our friend Paul Brandner who is such a goof. And Geoffrey was so named because the doll is sold under a toys r us brand called Geoffrey, so it seemed appropriate. The funniest thing is hearing Will try to say his name. He does pretty well actually. As for why I got them babies, it was so that they could practice being gentle on something other than Abigail or Jack. Not too much of a success so far, since poor Geoffrey has been unceremoniously chucked down the stairs and onto the floor more times than I can count (Owen is a little more gentle with Paul). However, Owen decided it was funny to shove Cooper, the 18 month old who lives down the block from us, several times during our playdate today. Mummy was not impressed in the least. The playdate was a little hard going today since the boys were just so off. Will kept crying and wanting to be picked up and then immediately wanting to get down and Owen just kept trying to beat Cooper up. It can't have been all bad though since Cooper's mum said "Want to get together on Thursday?" as they were leaving.

Will and "Poor Geoffrey" as I've started calling him
Once the boys went to bed, Amber and Abby came over and we made some meals for our friends Michelle and Chris who are experiencing the very definition of a difficult pregnancy right now. Michelle has been on bedrest for a month and a few of us have formed what we like to call Team In Utero to help out in any way we can. So far that help seems to be in the form of frozen meals for Chris so he can spend as much time as he can with his lovely wife in the hospital. So Amber and I decided it would be a good idea to make Eggplant Parmesan for Chris as well as a beef stew for our families for dinner tonight. For some reason these meals took all afternoon. Maybe it was because Miss Abby didn't feel like going for a nap so Amber had to cook with her in the baby bjorn the whole time. Maybe we should have read the recipes first before committing ourselves to making them. Anyway, by 3pm the boys had woken up from their naps and Amber was left to entertain them as I finished off the eggplant dish and tried to continue with our stew. She was such a trooper, doing everything from reading stories to singing "the ants go marching one by one" (until Will said "all done" by the fourth verse...poor auntie Amber!) to keep them occupied and happy whilst I sweated it out in the kitchen. I think we were both pretty pleased with the end results though, as we ended up with a tasty dinner for this evening as well as lots of stuff to freeze for Michelle and Chris. The funniest part of the cooking though was when I looked up to see Amber unaware that both she and her daughter were covered in flour. I laughed and then ran for the camera. They both look so cute! I'm sure Abby is going to become a great cook like her dad and, cough, cough, like her mum too. No one reads a recipe quite like you, Amber. ;)
