Glazed Doughnut

I remember listening to a cassette as a kid of Bill Cosby doing stand up, talking about the Glazed Doughnut Monster. The Monster was one of his kids who had a runny nose. As the child wiped the back of his hand across his face, he basically glazed himself with his, uh, snot. Charming, I know. At the time, I didn't entirely appreciate his words. But as a parent with one sick toddler and another not far behind on the cold front, I have proof that the Glazed Doughnut Monster exists. He is Owen.

Poor Owen has been sick since Sunday night with a nasty cough and a fever (I almost thought he had croup, it was so barky and tight that first night). He's been miserable since Monday morning and that in turn has been making me a little miserable too. Although bless his cotton socks, he's been sleeping through the night still, and its only during the day that he looks at me with big red eyes, a glazed doughnut face, sweaty, curly hair and an expression that says, "make it stop, mama, make it stop!". I think he cried for three hours straight at one point today. During what should have been naptime. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that tonight will be the turning point and he'll be a little more chipper tomorrow.

In the meantime, William has been bouncing off the walls, practically doing back flips to get his share of mama's attention. He's been awfully good, only biting his poor brother every other hour rather than every other minute. He was awfully cute today though, running around the back garden with only his shoes on, playing in the kiddie pool, whilst Owen looked on forlornly. Its days like these when I wish we had a nanny, or at least family nearby, just so someone could entertain Will whilst I take Owen off to a quiet corner. And since Owen is off his food, William isn't eating properly either, as he couldn't possibly stay in his highchair if his brother is out. Le sigh. I hate it when they're off their food.

The good news is that my mum will be coming over for a week in 10 days time (I've started the countdown already), so I'm hoping she can give some tips to get us back on the track to proper meals. They always seem to eat better when other people are around. And I also feel like I have a skewed view of what they're eating anyway, so maybe she'll tell me its not as bad as I think it is. Because at the moment, I'm imagining our next doctor's check up will reveal scurvy or something. No, wait, that's not possible, since the only thing they do eat on a regular basis is raspberries, and I'm pretty sure that would prevent scurvy.

Anyway, hopefully tomorrow will be a happier day for my little guys and I'll be able to take photos of their general cuteness. If not, prepare yourself for a video of Owen aka The Glazed Doughnut Monster.

Oh, poor Owie! I wish that I was there to help. I'm sure that you're still being the super mum that you've shown yourself to be since the beginning. Hope today was better. Hugs all around!
