Bookworms?

Something kind of wonderful has been happening over the last few days. Owen and William have started bringing books to me to read. I was always a little concerned that they showed minimal interest in all the amazing books we've been given. I'd pretty much convinced myself that we'd never get them interested in reading or that, horror of horrors, we'd end up with illiterate jocks! If you know how much Mark and I love curling up with a good book, you'll understand how that possibility would be our worst nightmare!

But as I said, both boys have begun bringing books to us. Owen now regularly toddles over with a book in hand, grunting away as he shoves it at us, "uh, uh, uh, uh". If you don't notice him right away, he starts to get a little insistant, "uh, uh, uh, UH!" But when you finally take the book from him, he "mmm, mmm, mmm"s in delight and plops himself down next to you. I noticed this evening that he's started patting the couch next to me once he's handed the book over, imitating the way I pat the couch and say, "why don't you come sit down next to me?"

William is a little less bookish right now, compared to his brother, but he too brings books. Neither of them stay for the whole reading, but I'm pleased nonetheless. I just love books and the wonderful places they can take you, and I would be so thrilled if my boys discover the magic of reading too. As I said, we've been given so many amazing books by family and friends and I look forward to finding out which ones are their favorites. I don't even mind that I have to read The Very Hungry Caterpillar three times in a row before something else grabs their interest.

Here they are reading with daddy this evening.
