Normally, when we drive the 6+ hours to the cottage, we leave early in the morning to get there around lunchtime. Last time we did that with the boys, they slept for two hours and cried for the remaining four. So we tried a new strategy this time and left on Friday night at 6:30pm. The boys were snug in their pjs and we set off with fingers crossed that they would fall asleep for the rest of the drive. Well, they managed to do just that until our pit stop in Kingston, two hours later. They then giggled and chatted and whinged until Ottawa and finally fell asleep again sometime around midnight on our final leg of the drive.
When we got to the cottage it was after 1am, but our little monkeys were awake and ready to explore the cottage. We finally got them to bed, but here's what happened once we were ready to turn out the lights.

I love how things never quite work out the way we hope but we learn to adjust and just deal with what comes our way. We've had a few road trips where we planned it around bed time and something similiar sort of happened where Nathan arrived wired and ready for the night life of Vancouver.
