Well its been a fun day today - our run with Debbie was tough but good and she spoiled the boys with some fun presents - a Fisher Price zoo train, complete with tiger, parrot, giraffe and zoo keeper, as well as a Mega Blocks farm that has a cow, a chicken, a pig and a farmer with his tractor. It plays lots of music, but when it starts to drive you crazy and you turn it off, the farmer gets in one last dig with a nice "Yeee-Haw!" It cracked me up when I first heard it.
Our birthday lunch didn't go quite as smoothly. I made the boys some usual lunchtime fare - scrambled eggs with grated cheese and steamed broccoli and was told in no uncertain terms that this was not suitable. William took one tiny little lick of egg and spat it out in disgust, whereas Owen barely touched the egg to his mouth before throwing it, with a suprising amount of force, across the kitchen. He looked at me as if to say "How DARE you serve us scrambled eggs on our first birthday!" I thought I would give it one more shot and placed another piece on both their trays. Again the disgust, again the throwing. Okkkaaaaay. "And don't even think we're going to eat your stinkin' broccoli, lady." So its a this point that William decides to perform a dramatised version of Its my party and I'll cry if I want to and cries for the rest of lunch. I managed to get him to eat some vanilla yoghurt, some strawberries and some toast trhough his tears, but it wasn't pretty. I'm assuming he was just too tired out from the morning and from hearing me sing Happy Birthday over and over.
Anyway, they napped (and so did I, hee hee) and when they woke up, we played in the basement with our new toys and then daddy came home early to play with us some more. Wheeee! I made carrot cake muffins/cupcakes and we fed them their favorite dinner of pasta and turkey bolognese (very delish! very messy!) and then gave them their birthday cupcake/muffins. Its on video and I'll try to upload it but it might take a while.
Then since the boys were covered in a combination of pasta sauce, frosting and crumbs, we dunked them in the tub and then plopped them into bed. All in all a good day. Its amazing what constitutes a good day when you have babies!
