My brave little William is officially finished with his helmet! Hurray! He's been so good about the whole thing for 6 months and I'm so proud of him for being a little (storm) trooper. He very rarely fussed about having his helmet put on, even though he had to wear it for about 20 hours a day, including when he slept, and even though it was hot for him under there this summer (you don't want to know how stinky his head got! Whew!) And he also didn't complain about the silly stickers I put on it, or our trips to Sick Kids downtown, where he was poked and prodded and photographed every 4 weeks. Bless him, what a good boy!
So we went today to see Art, the specialist, who said that Will's head hasn't changed shape for 3 months (although his ears did change position) and that means the helmet is finito. I apologised to Art, saying we weren't very good at putting the helmet on William this month, due to his fever and me just feeling like we were ready to be finished, but he said we'd done really well. Apparently most babies don't make it past 10 months old with a helmet because they just freak out when parents try to put it on. So he was very impressed with us for lasting this long. Way to go Will!
I've scanned two pictures for you so you can see the before and after shots...the first one is a photo of the mould made on our first visit. It shows just how out of shape William's head actually was. The second shot was taken today at the clinic, showing William from above with a little "sock" on his head to show its true shape (hair would have gotten in the way otherwise).Pretty impressive, huh? I'm so glad that we went through with the helmet. I think it was worth it, and I hope William thinks so too when he's older.

great job William, a perfectly round little noggin.
Good job mom and dad on going through what must have been somewhat of a challening decision at the time, I'm sure he'll thank you some day.
