I was very, very brave on Friday night. We went out without the boys for the first time in...I don't remember how long. We had a babysitter who was not a family member, but someone Anindita recommended. We went out for a whole 4 1/2 hours, and I didn't call home once (although I did leave my cell phone on the table when I went to the washroom in case I suddenly caved in the loo and called to check on them).
Mark and I had dinner in Port Credit, a little lakeside town about fifteen minutes west of us. We sat on a restaurant terrace and talked and people-watched and ate and drank (I had alcohol!) and laughed. And then I got a mint chocolate chip ice cream cone at Baskin Robbins. And then we walked hand in hand along the promenade to Starbucks and somehow got two free coffees and smiled and sighed and relaxed. And it was wonderful.
Hurray for Bryanne, the babysitter sent from above, who is wonderful with Owen and Will and who lives just around the corner. Hurray for my husband who managed to leave work at 5:30 for the first time in months. Hurray for me, who didn't let panic set in when I realised I was out in the big wide world without my beloved boys.
Maybe next time we'll get out to a movie!
