Soup Of The Day

I wasn't planning on starting the boys on solids for a couple of weeks, but they've been waking up in the night for the past few days, which is very unusual for them. Mark and I have heard that this is one of the ways that babies show they might be ready for solids. I was out grocery shopping with Cecile today and we picked up some rice cereal and figured we'd see what happened at lunchtime. I mixed the cereal with some formula from their bottles to make it nice and soupy and a flavour they would recognise and then put them in their highchairs and...

Apparently the first little taste is best given on your "scrupulously clean" fingertip - I guess so its not a total shock to have solids AND a spoon in there. Will didn't seem to mind so much.

Owen looked like a baby bird with his mouth wide open when I approached with cereal-covered finger

The spoon when in fairly easily too, and not much came back out again.

Owen was fairly interested in the whole thing

I only gave them about two spoonfuls to start off with - I think they were wanting their bottles - but they didn't seem totally freaked out by the cereal. Will was a little grumbly during his bottle, but I think he's been a bit gassy today. I'll try again tomorrow at lunch and see what happens. My babies! Eating solids!

A running stroller!! Looks like you will be able to clear the pavements with it...but what an awesome pressie. And now that the sun is out I bet you can't wait to get out there. Love the lamb/zebra tops and the delicious goo the boys are being fed! I hope you guys are all having fun. Big bisoux to Dave and Cece (and of course to you guys). xxx

Just looking at the photos again (I look at my own blog about 50 times a day, I love all the photos so much) and I think in the one with Will and the spoon, he's saying in his poshest voice, "Hmm, interesting. Its a full bodied flavour with a hint of oak and...is that cherries I taste? Its got quite a cheeky aftertaste to it, wouldn't you say, Owen?"
