Not only is today the one year anniversary of finding out that I was pregnant, its also a very special day for my very dear friends Debra Hogarth and Darrell Law. They're getting married today in Victoria, BC. In fact, I do believe they're getting married as I type this.
Debra is one of my "running buddies", or Iron Ladies, as we dubbed ourselves when we first started running together. No, we weren't training for an Ironman, we were actually in a 5 km clinic together at the Running Room, but those 5 km runs felt like an Ironman to us. Deb had just moved to the area from out west and I had just moved here from waaay out east (the UK) and we were both looking for friends in our running group. I think I found a "lifer", as my mum would say, in Deb. I'm not sure I've ever met a more thoughtful, generous, funny, gorgeous person. She's just fabulous and I'm glad she's my friend.
When Deb moved out here to Toronto, she met Darrell, another fantastic person from out west who had relocated to the T. Dot - their love story is very sweet, but suffice to say, it all started at a Leafs game when they had to kiss on the giant Kiss Cam in front of tens of thousands of Leafs fans during a break in play. And now they're getting married.
Deb has been planning this wedding for a long time, and I think it will be the social event of the season in Victoria. Debra is going to look gorgeous and Darrell is going to give the most wonderful toast to his bride. Then Deb will give the most incredible speech that will have everyone sobbing and laughing. I wish I was there, but I know Deb and Darrell know Mark and the boys and I are with them in spirit. We're thinking of you both and wish you all kinds of happy.
To Deb and Darrell!
