Other events of interest

I saw my OB yesterday and she said that since both babies are head-down (I believe the technical term is vertex), I have the "choice" of a natural birth or a c-section. How the hell am I supposed to decide on THAT? Can I choose neither? I don't think either option sounds like that much fun.

So I've been pondering this since yesterday's appointment and can't really decide which option I think is better. I think I was initially leaning towards a c-section because then its scheduled and I will know exactly when I'm going in and will feel less nervous about anything going wrong with the babies - sometimes during a natural birth with twins, the first baby comes out and then the second one either doesn't "engage" (move down) or gets stressed by all the contractions so you end up having a c-section anyway - and of course, the lack of pain issue seems kind of nice. But then you have to deal with being out of it when the babies are born and the longer recovery from surgery.

As I read more about c-sections last night, I think that maybe I prefer the idea of trying to go for the natural birth. I think being able to hold the babies right away is important to me. I don't like the idea of all the grunting and pushing and screaming - and that's just from Mark (badoum-boom!).

Anyway, I've got another appointment with the doctor on the 18th so I'll talk to her more about it all then. Any advice anyone?

wow... what a choice to make, pascy. sounds like you've done some good thinking about it. and obviously, whatever you're comfortable with is best. i have to say, though, it's a nice idea NOT to have to recover from a belly incision while caring for two wee ones... plus being coherent and holding them right away - those all sound good, and important to you.
have you had any further thoughts?

All our experiences are unique - sounds anodine, but what I mean to say is that you may have a great/bad C-section or a great / not so great natural birth. But, if you want me to give an opinion, being an emergency C-section survivor, I would aspire to a natural delivery. Even if you have to go the C way eventually, you may still like to do some of it the natural way. It is a life-affirming process. Ask me if you want my experience post C-section. No-one told me what would happen!! Ionex
