First Day of Maternity Leave

Well I'm not bored yet. I've been a busy little bee actually. I went to the doctor, ate lunch, watched about 30 mins of tv, napped (oh, glorious afternoon naps! how I do love you), spoke with my friend Gillian in Scotland (thanks for the call!), and then spent some time on the net organising a few details, like maternity benefits and bill payments. I've also called Mark a ridiculous number of times today and feel bad about that, but I would have been emailing him and calling him if I was at work too...

I also bought three new books from Chapters thanks to Dee-Ann, who spoiled me with a gift card. Thanks Dee!! Now I won't go totally square-eyed in front of the tv everyday! I think they should arrive within the next few days, so I'm looking forward to snuggling up on the couch with my doggy and my books.

The doctor said I need to rest until the results of my next ultrasound. No shopping trips to buy baby clothes, nursing bras or pjs. Hopefully the results of my next U/S will show that everything is stable down there and I'll be allowed out on some short jaunts. If not, I'm sure I'll survive without new pjs and bras for a little while longer.

The doctor also said that Baby A is smaller than Baby B, so if anyone entered the competition and said A was bigger, feel free to edit your comment or post a new one with a revised weight guess. I would feel its unfair of me to let you guess when I already know one is smaller than the other.

She's booking me in for an inducement or a c-section (whichever we decide is needed) for my 38th week, and at my next appointment the secretary will tell me what date and time that will be. Obviously, if the Bobs come early then there's no need for the booking, but its just in case they decide to stick around that long (fingers crossed). If her waiting room and the 12 minutes she spent with me in my appointment are anything to go by, she's a busy lady and thats why we're booking something now. Seems a little surreal.

She also told me that if the twins come now, they'll be about 34 weeks (I'm 33 weeks today, but I think Thursdays are the official changeover to the next week) and they will be just fine. They'll probably have to spend some time in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) though. I don't think I've quite got my brain wrapped around that. I don't like the idea of not being able to hold them and breastfeed them right away. But I have to face up to this very likely possibility, so I might as well accept it now. At the end of the day, I just want them to be healthy, right? So if this is what's needed, that's a good thing. I just found this link on google and found it helpful, so if any of you want to read it too, here it is:

Okay, am off to find my next task (probably eating a snack and petting Jack).

Hi Momma,

You'll do great and the little ones will be fine. Can't wait to meet them :)

Thinking of you and sending hugs,
Lisa
