Cottage Weekend

We went ot the cottage this weekend - pure heaven. Even the drive wasn't too bad. I took out a talking book from the library, a detective novel called Twisted by Jonathan Kellerman. Its the second time we've had stroytime in the car on the 6 hour drive to the cottage and it really makes the time and the kms fly by. Although Mark and I both roll our eyes constantly at the narrator - it always a terrible reading. I kept looking at the photo of the female narrator on the back of the case and thinking to myself "she looks very familiar" and as I write this it finally slid into place - she was Maggie Walsh in Season 4 of Buffy (an evil professor performing dodgy experiments on unsuspecting monsters, vampires and humans). Anyway, very satisfying to finally realise who she was, I hate it when you can't place a face.

But enough of all that! So we got to the cottage at about 1:30am and Jack was beside himself with joy. He loves it up there. He didn't want to go to bed, kept standing at the front door staring intently at the doorknob. I think he just loves all the different smells and sounds at the cottage. He was very cute and very well behaved all weekend, apart from some serious whining on Saturday morning. And a small case of grassy-ass which I won't get in to, dear readers. You just don't want to know. He also got a bath in the lake, despite his best efforts to escape, and now smells of clean puppy. Too bad we can't fix the bad breath.

Our good friends (as opposed to our bad friends?) Annie & Paul came up on Saturday afternoon and stayed until the following morning. We love Annie & Paul, they're just the nicest people to spend time with. Annie is helping me to plan the boys' room, and she brought up all of her House & Home magazines for us to look through for inspiration. Definitely saw some great stuff. We also swam and ate and chatted and played cards (in honour of Amber, who would have insisted on us playing at least one card game and several board games if she'd been with us) and generally had a lovely time. Annie took a couple of pics of my belly for you all to see - quite impressive, non? And please excuse the state I'm in in these photos - I look like I was dragged through a hedge backwards. Focus on the belly, not the face and hair.

We also got to see KJ and Dwayne before they went to see Crosbie, Stills, Nash & Youngin concert. My own personal nurse didn't let me lift a finger the entire time we were together! And she talked to her nephews too, which they seemed to enjoy. She got to feel a couple of kicks as well, although I'm sure the little buggers know as soon as I say to someone "Oh! They're kicking, come feel" because they stop moving immediately, and the poor person is left with their hand on my bump, looking slightly awkward and uncomfortable, or else staring off to the left or right as they focus on feeling a kick that never materialises. They do it on purpose, I'm sure of it!

We drove home on Monday, made burritos and watched four episiodes of Boston Legal, Season One. What a great show - William Shatner and James Spader at their best. Then it was bedtime for all and now I'm back at work. siiiiigh.

Oh! Nearly forgot to mention that my doctor's office called and said they've booked me in for an ultrasound every four weeks from tomorrow onwards. Am quite excited about seeing photos of my little guys again. I'll try to see if I can have someone scan them and will email them out again soon - maybe by the weekend. If you're like my father-in-law and find the images of babies in utero disturbing, let me know and I won't force their portraits on you.

Also forgot to mention that yesterday was our second wedding anniversary. Guess who forgot? Not my gorgeous husband who could barely supress his delight in having not only remembered, but also bought me a gift! When he kissed me on Monday morning and said sweetly, 'Happy Anniversary", I sputtered and choked and managed a "Wha?" whilst he chortled to himself and said 'I KNEW you forgot, you weren't dropping any hints! Mwahaha, now this is a get out of jail free card for the next few years!" He bought me a lovely book called PLAY which is filled with great exercises to play with your newborn to one year olds to help develop motor skills and make them giggle too. I thought it was a very thoughtful present. And Mark Charles Johnson, I do love you!

Enjoy the photos from the cottage...
